Heavy rain lashes parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh, waterlogging reported | Visakhapatnam News

VISAKHAPATNAM/ SRIKAKULAM: Several areas under Peddapadu and Gara localities in Srikakulam district and few areas under Arilova locality in Vizag city reported severe waterlogging on Tuesday morning after heavy rain lashed parts of north coastal Andhra Pradesh.
Due to waterlogging on the road, vehicular traffic was also affected for hours.
Rainwater entered some houses in the wee hours at Ramakrishna Puram locality (13th ward of GVMC) in Vizag city. Roads at One-Town and few other localities in the city were submerged.
We have been appealing to the GVMC authorities for the modernization of the drain passing between Nalla Quarry and Mudasarlova as the drain overflows during the heavy rains and the storm water enters in our hours. But our requests have fallen on deaf ears, said P Rama Rao, a resident of Ramakrishna Puram.
Ramakrishna Puram is home for over 600 families and there is no permanent solution for the problem (water logging) in the locality.
The locals demanded the authorities to design layouts for the poor people so that they will shift to the new locality.
The heavy rains in parts of Srikakulam district and neighbouring Odisha led to flood like situation in some parts of the Srikakulam district. Waterlogging was reported for hours on the NH-16 stretch at some places in Srikakulam district and the rainwater entered some houses on Tuesday.
Those affected said that they have faced a tough time as the rain-water has damaged the rice, pulses and electronic gadgets in their homes. They alleged that despite the series of waterlogging incidents during the rainy days, the officials haven’t not taken any step to mitigate the waterlogging.
With the series of complaints from the commuters about the waterlogging on the roads in Srikakulam, the officials have swung into action to clear the waterlogging.
The weathermen said that Bheemili in Vizag city recorded 19.9 cm rainfall from Monday morning to Tuesday morning followed by 7.3 cm rainfall in Gopalapatnam area. In Srikakulam district, Gara recorded 12.8 cm rainfall on Tuesday followed by 6.4 cm rainfall in Polaki.
