Didi hails cops for not firing at ‘hooligans’ | India News

KOLKATA/ NIMTOURI: Thirteen people have been arrested for attempt to murder, rioting and vandalising public property in seven FIRs lodged in five Kolkata police stations following BJP’s march to the Bengal secretariat that turned violent on Tuesday, leaving eight party members and 56 cops injured.
CM Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday praised police for exercising restraint and not shooting at the “hooligans”, though they could have. She said firing “isn’t desirable”.
Police on Wednesday said that a PCR van was set ablaze at the MG Road-Rabindra Sarani crossing, and a police kiosk near Poddar Court was vandalised. It was at the same crossing that ACP Debjit Chatterjee was chased by suspected BJP supporters, hit with sticks, pinned down to the ground and assaulted. Three men were arrested for the attack and a court sent them to police custody till September 20.
