Jet fuel stocks doubled at Leh before road links get snapped due to winter

Amid rising demand from military and civil aviation, jet fuel storage capacity has been nearly doubled at Leh airport to ensure adequate supply to the forces without affecting refuelling of passenger flights, especially during the long and harsh winters when road connectivity to the area gets snapped.
Indian Oil has built additional tanks to maintain the stipulated minimum stock level (MSL) of 700 kl (kilo litre) for defence sector without stopping supplies for the surging number of daily flights, said sources. They said carriers can now refuel at Leh even during winters. Passenger flights to Leh, which have to watch their weight to be able to land safely, can now lug civil supplies as they don’t have to carry extra fuel.
