Uttar Pradesh: 17 get life sentence for double murder in Hamirpur | Lucknow News

LUCKNOW: A court in Hamirpur has awarded life sentence to 17 convicts for a double murder committed in the district in 1994.
The punishment was awarded by additional district judge (SC/ST Act) Mohammad Aslam Siddiqui on Tuesday. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 each on all the convicts.
On March 16, 1994, two men, Jaswant and Motilal, both Dalits, were murdered by the convicts over an old enmity. They were shot multiple times and injured with sharp-edged weapons, said the police.
“The killers had reached the residence of Jaswant in Chakothi village and shot him multiple times and looted Rs 4,000 from him. Next, they attacked Motilal. But he managed to flee and took shelter in a house. The killers then dragged him out and shot him in front of the villagers. Later, an FIR was registered against 25 men on charges of dacoity with murder, murder, and under the SC/ST Act,” the officer said.
Special public prosecutor, Vijay Singh, told TOI that an FIR in the case was registered by Jaswant’s brother Ramesh Chandra against 25 people, five of whom died during trial while three are absconding.
