Bhopal: Burglar stabs 52-year-old woman in Chunabhatti | Bhopal News

BHOPAL: A burglar allegedly sneaked into a businessman’s house premises with an intention to commit theft and sat beside the door in the porch in the posh Windsor Estate Colony in Chunabhatti locality on Thursday morning.
As the house-owner, a 52-year-old woman, opened the door, the accused tried to get inside and stabbed the woman during the scuffle as she tried to raise an alarm.
The woman’s children, including a son and daughter, raised alarm and nabbed the accused with the help of neighbours and security guards. They rushed the injured woman to a private hospital where she was undergoing treatment.
Acting on information, Chunabhatti police reached the spot and arrested the accused. A case on charges of house trespass and attempt to murder was registered against him.
SHO Chunabhatti Nitin Sharma said that businessman Arvind Kharbanda along with his wife Shalini, 52, and children including son Ayush, 23, and daughter resides in Windsor Estate Phase 1 covered campus Colony in Chunabhatti. Arvind runs an optician shop in Chunabhatti and his son assists him.
SHO Sharma Arvind had gone out of station and was supposed to return on Thursday morning. The accused Naveen Lokhande, 19, who hails from Itarsi and presently resides at Chunabhatti village, worked as a watchman in the colony around a year back. At present he works as a watchman in another colony. He sneaked into Kharbanda’s house early in the morning.
SHO Sharma said that around 7am, when Shalini opened the door, Naveen, who was hiding in the porch of the house, tried to get inside.
He tried to overpower Shalini and smothered her mouth. When she tried to raise an alarm, he pushed her on the floor and stabbed her twice in the abdomen with a kitchen knife which he had brought with him.
Hearing her scream, Ayush and his sister rushed downstairs and raised the alarm for help. They along with neighbours and security guards nabbed Naveen and rushed Shalini to a hospital. She was undergoing treatment and her condition was reported stable.
A Dial-100 FRV reached the spot on getting information and arrested the accused.
SHO Sharma said that the accused Naveen earlier worked as a security guard in Windsor Estate Colony. He was aware of the Kharbanda family’s routine.
He revealed that he was under heavy debt for which he tried to commit theft at Kharbanda’s home to arrange money. Police arrested him and further investigations were on.
