Light showers bring cheers in Gurugram, expect more till weekend | Gurgaon News

GURUGRAM: Several parts of the city witnessed scattered rain on Wednesday, bringing much-needed relief from the humidity.
The maximum temperature dropped to 31.4 degrees Celsius on Wednesday because of strong winds with speeds of 25kmph-35kmph. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature was recorded at 27.4 degrees. The sky was clear during the first half of the day, but dark clouds covered the sky later on.
The India Meteorological Department as forecast light rain on Thursday and the maximum temperature is likely to dip by two degrees in the coming days. “The city might witness cloudy skies and light rain till the weekend,” said an IMD official.
With only 3.8mm rains till September 15, Gurugram is experiencing a massive shortage of 94%. Barring July, which saw surplus rainfall of 19% with 208.4mm rain, monsoon activities were rather disappointing this year. While June reported 37.8 mm rainfall, a deficit of 20%, the second half of the monsoon season was relatively dry with August recording a rain deficit of 65% with 65 mm rains.
“The well-marked low-pressure area over northwest Madhya Pradesh persists. It is likely to move slowly north to north-westwards during the next 24 hours. Fairly widespread light or moderate rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall and thunderstorm or lightning is expected over Haryana and east Rajasthan on Thursday,” said the official.
The city’s air was in the ‘satisfactory’ category on Wednesday with an overall AQI recording 69, compared to 72 a day earlier.
