JAIPUR: Under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao campaign, the department of women and child development has started work to develop 66 girl-friendly gram panchayats across Rajasthan, with two such panchayats in every district, said officials on Thursday.
A master training programme of sathins, the ground level contact person, who will work on the initiative were being trained.
The initiative started as a pilot project in seven villages in Sawai Madhopur district in 2020, after which it will now be implemented on a state level.
Officials said that the objective is to ensure that girls are accepted in the society and get all possible help for education, health, safety and security and overall development. Pushpa Satyani, commissioner women empowerment department said, “The main objective is to build an environment where first the girl child is accepted, then she is given education, health facilities and feels safe and secure. We are constantly striving for creating an encouraging environment for daughters in the society and their overall development.”
On Thursday, representatives from 20 districts participated in the training programme and 13 remaining districts will be given training on Friday, said officials.
Dinesh Kumar Yadav, secretary for women and child department said that in this initiative, sathins, gram panchayats of identified villages, deputy director, assistant directors of respective districts, have an important role to play. The participation of officers, employees, villagers, families of the concerned gram panchayats is also important, said the secretary.
On Thursday, as part of the training, sathins were given legal knowledge about different acts and provisions available to help women and schemes available in the state for economic growth of women.
They will further form groups with different official representatives, anganwadi workers, ANM workers, gram panchayat members in respective villages and identify the issues.
After the groups on village level have been formed, the sathins will be given an SOP on how to implement the initiative in the villages. One of the key objectives is to conduct security audits in villages and discuss the issues identified with the panchayat.
“Till our villages are safe for girls, making a girl friendly gram panchayat is very difficult. A security audit is important to identify unsafe stretches in terms of anti social elements disturbing girls or areas which are not properly lit. Further issues like proper toilets in schools with water supply along with drinking water facilities so that education is not hampered,” said an official who was involved in the training process.
