Punjab: Congress says AAP making false claims on 6-month performance | Chandigarh News

CHANDIGARH: Opposition Congress slammed the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Friday, saying that it was making false claims about its achievements during the six months it had been in power in Punjab.
Terming the first six months of Punjab government devoid of direction, coupled with chaos and confusion, Congress leader and Punjab leader of opposition (LoP) Partap Singh Bajwa said chief minister Bhagwant Mann had disappointed lakhs of Punjabis who voted AAP to power.
Bajwa said CM Bhagwant Mann-led government’s “mismanagement” was being witnessed in almost all departments of public dealing, where even the most ordinary works were being obstructed due to an indifferent approach of officials. “The Mann government came on the plank of having zero tolerance for corruption. But, not only the common man continues to suffer in government offices at the hands of corrupt officials, he has to dole out twice bribe amount to get even the most mundane work done,” said Bajwa.
Bajwa accused Mann of adopting a double standards on corruption complaints against his cabinet ministers. “You sacked health minister Dr Vijay Singla merely on the basis of an audio clip. Why you are adopting a different yardstick for your other cabinet colleague Fauja Singh Sarari?” Bajwa said.
Punjab Congress president Amrinder Singh Raja Warring challenged the AAP government to prove even a single achievement. “This is a government of advertisements, for advertisements and by advertisements,” he said, adding that there was nothing on the ground which would make anyone feel any difference.
It has been an all-round failure, whether on law and order, health or education, he said. “Thanks to their (government’s) callous negligence, a singer like Sidhu Moose Wala was killed after his security was withdrawn and there was a terror attack on the intelligence wing headquarters,” he said. He added murders, dacoities, robberies and car snatchings had become routine as criminals had no fear of law.
The performance of this government can be judged by the fact that within six months of being in power in Punjab, AAP has to hide its MLAs and keep them captive lest they run away. “That means your MLAs are not happy and satisfied,” he said. “When your privileged MLAs don’t feel satisfied, what would be the plight of the common man?”
He added that in just six months, the AAP government was feeling too insecure to let its MLAs free and they had been held in captivity in Delhi, Warring. “Why is the AAP so afraid and what is it afraid of?”
Referring to the performance of the government during the last six months, Warring pointed out that two of its flagship policies, one of home delivery of free ration and second of sand mining policy, had been stayed by the Punjab and Haryana high court. “The liquor policy is already under the scrutiny of investigating agencies amid charges of corruption,” he added.
