‘No lions, tigers, giraffes; cheetahs to rule Kuno’ | India News

SHEOPUR (KUNO): Kuno is now cheetah land. Plans for introduction of lions, zebras and giraffes will be moved to other sanctuaries, officials said.
Only deer that can augment cheetahs’ prey base will be shifted to Kuno National Park, said forest officials. Officers confirmed that no other species can be shifted to Kuno till Project Cheetah concludes. Forest minister Vijay Shah said giraffes and zebras (earlier planned for Kuno) will be introduced in other regions of the state. Amid the euphoria over cheetahs, some senior IFS officers, retired and serving, as well as activists, lamented that conservation was being turned into “show business”, with millions “wasted on an exotic species”.
