Cops have also arrested 296 people in related cases – 130 with cannabis and 166 with illicit liquor – and also registered 128 cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and 147 under the Excise Act.
In comparison, from January to August 24, police had arrested 347 people with cannabis and 701 with illicit liquor. During the same period, police had seized 2,138 kgs of narcotics and 33,389 litres of liquor.
Police claimed that Sector 24 police arrested four interstate peddlers and seized 512 kgs of cannabis worth around Rs 50 lakh — a major bust.
Similarly, Phase 2 police station arrested a suspect and seized 425 kgs of cannabis from him.
Police requested people’s support in checking the drug menace.
“If any person is illegally selling or smuggling narcotic substances (such as drugs, ganja, liquor) around your area, you can inform the police through WhatsApp or call on 8851065641,” an officer said.
Police also said they would not reveal the identities of the people who identify criminals and not pardon the criminals concerned.
At the August meeting, CM Yogi Adityanath had also asked police to ensure strict action against all anti-social elements who use their “clout to harass ordinary people.”
