Uttar Pradesh: Man held for burning tricolour, sharing video on social media | Lucknow News


LUCKNOW: The Rae Bareli police on Saturday arrested a man for burning the tricolour and uploading the video of the act on social media.
The accused, Narendra Saini (27), was arrested from Shivgarh and has been charged with insulting the national flag and booked under Section 7 of the Criminal Law Amendment Act.
Circle officer, Maharajganj, Ram Kishor Singh, said preliminary questioning revealed that the youth was frustrated as he was not able to secure a job and was not doing well in studies. He had a spat with his parents about three months ago after which he left his house and started staying with his maternal grandparents. He said efforts were on to ascertain the motive behind the act.
“No criminal record of the accused or any of his family members has been found. He owes no allegiance to the ideology of any political outfit,” the CO said.
The accused was staying with his maternal grandparents in Jagdishpur village in Shivgarh (Rae Bareli) after he left his house in Bhadokhar area three months ago, police said.
In the wee hours of September 16, the accused uploaded the objectionable video of burning the tricolour which also has a temple in the backdrop.
“Taking cognisance of the video that went viral on social media in the district, the SP directed for immediate arrest of the accused,” Singh said.
“A team was formed which first reached the residence of the accused and found that he was at his grandparents’ place,” said SHO, RakeshChandra.
Later, he was arrested from Jagdishpur village in Shivgarh area.
