Captain’s call to abandon ship saved our lives: Parth crew recount ordeal | Goa News

PANAJI: What began as a general alarm aboard the bitumen-laden tanker MT Parth as the Sun rose on Friday ended within hours, with the ship sinking off Ratnagiri. The 19 crew of the ill-fated vessel credit their skipper, an Ethiopian national, for taking the decision to abandon ship, which saved their lives.
The crew of the stricken vessel arrived safely aboard an Indian Coast Guard ship at Mormugao Port on Saturday, where the grateful crew recounted their ordeal. The 19 crew members narrated their tale of panic after the ship began to take on water and tilt sharply towards the starboard (right).
