Haryana: 4 killed, 7 injured in fatal crash between truck-tractor trolley on NH-44, truck driver arrested | Chandigarh News

KURUKSHETRA: Four people were killed and seven were injured in a fatal crash between a truck and tractor trolley on the National Highway (NH) 44 (GT Road) near Khanpur Kolian village in Kurukshetra district late night on Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Bhoti Devi (60) and Anjali (14) of Pindarsi village, Isro Devi (60) of Solu Majra village, all of Kurukshetra district and Shivani (18) of Nigdhu village in Karnal district.
The injured have been identified as Jasbir, Leela Devi, Salma, Kala Devi, Tushar, Shakuntla and Kamlesh.
As per the information, a group of people of different villages of Kurukshetra district were on their way to Habana village in Shahabad area, to attend “Bhagwan Valmiki Satsang”, but they met with the accident on NH 44 near Khanpur Kolian village.
On the complaint of Raja Ram of Pindarsi village, the Kurukshetra police have registered a case against truck driver identified later as Sunil Kumar of Karnal district, an employee of Babita Transport Company, Panipat. Accused driver Sunil has been booked under Section 279 (rash driving), 304-A (causing death by negligence) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life of others) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Thanesar Sadar police station on Sunday.
Thanesar Sadar SHO inspector Mandeep Kumar said, “Truck driver Sunil Kumar had fled towards the fields in the night after accident, but he was arrested by the police at about 5am on Sunday.”
In his complaint, Raja Ram stated to the police that they left from Pindarsi village in a tractor-trolley to Habana village to attend Bhagwan Valmiki Satsang at about 8pm.
“Bablu of Pindarsi village was driving the tractor and I was sitting with him on mudguard. The rest of the people were sitting in the trolley. When we reached near Khanpur Kolian village on GT Road at 10pm, a rashly driven truck came from behind and hit the trolley directly. The people sitting in the trolley fell out on the road and some were crushed under the tires of truck”, said Raja.
He said truck driver stopped his vehicle and fled towards fields.
Raja said after the accident some passerby stopped there and soon several ambulances and police vehicles also reached the spot.
“Shivani, Anjali and Isro Devi had died on the spot, as they were crushed under truck tires and Bhoti Devi died undergoing treatment at LNJP Civil Hospital, Kurukshetra”, said Raja Ram.
SHO Mandeep said among the injured Leela was referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh in serious condition while Jasbir is admitted at a private hospital. He said the rest of the injured are undergoing treatment at the civil hospital in Kurukshetra.
