Indira Ekadashi 2022: Ekadashi is considered as one of the most religious fast observed by Hindu people. Ekadashi is purely dedicated to worship Lord Vishnu. Indira Ekadashi has special importance among all the other Ekadashis as it falls during Pitru Paksha. As per drik panchang, Indira Ekadashi will be observed on the eleventh day of Krishna Paksha in the Ashwina month. This month Indira Ekadashi is going to be observed on 21st September, 2022.

Indira Ekadashi 2022: Significance
Indira Ekadashi is falling during Pitru Paksha so this Ekadashi has a special significance in Hindu religion and this Ekadashi is known as Pitru Paksha Ekadashi. On this day, people offer prayers and worship ancestors/forefathers. This fast holds a great importance as it helps people to get rid of their past sins and also helps to attain salvation after death.
Indira Ekadashi 2022: Story
According to the Hindu Scriptures, there was a kind-hearted and powerful King named Indrasen. He used to take enough care of his kingdom. He was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu. Narada Muni once visited his Kingdom to convey his message to the king and Narada muni told him about the bad situation of his father after his death that he is in the kingdom of Yamraj and there he is suffering from his past sins. He further said that he must observe Indira Ekadashi Vrat to help him out of this worst condition and can attain salvation. Narada muni helped the king and explained all the rituals of India Ekadashi.
The king did exactly what Narada muni told him. By observing this fast his father attained salvation and went to Vishnu lok from yam lok and also he got free from all the past sins. Even the king himself achieved everything what he wanted. After seeing the miraculous effects of India Ekadashi Vrat, King Indrasen never stopped observing Ekadashi vrat.
Indira Ekadashi 2022: Rituals
1. The devotees wake up early in the morning and take holy bath, wear nice clothes before commencing the rituals.
2. People first perform all the shradh rituals.
3. Offer food clothes and dakshina to the brahmin or priest, must perform Pitru Tarpan.
4. After pooja one must offer water (Arghya) to Lord Surya.
5. Feed cow, crows and dogs.
6. After completing all the shradh rituals one can follow the Ekadashi fast rituals.
7. It is important to have firm devotion and dedication while performing Pooja.
8. The devotees worship Lord Vishnu and take a sankalp that they will observe fast with full devotion and they will not committ any sin.
9. The devotees place an idol of Lord Vishnu along with Goddess Laxmi, light a diya, offer vermillion or flowers and sweets.
10. People must offer Panchamrit (Milk, Curd, Sugar (Boora), Honey and Ghee) along with Tulsi Patra to please Lord Vishnu and Tulsi Patra is the main herb which is offered to Lord Vishnu.
11. It is believed that without offering Tulsi Patra pooja is considered to be incomplete.
12. The devotees must perform pooja in the evening just before sunset and offer bhog prasad to Lord Vishnu. They recite Vishnu Sahastranaam, Shree Hari Stotram and chant Lord Vishnu aarti.
13. Though the fast is fully broken on Dwadashi Tithi but people, who can not bear hunger, they can consume bhog prasad in the evening after performing pooja.
14. Bhog Prasad must be satvik – fruits, milk products and fried potatoes etc.
15. After performing aarti in the evening, one must distribute the bhog prasad among all the family members.
16. After distributing bhog prasad, devotees can break their fast by having satvik meal.
17. The devotees must visit temple to seek blessings from Lord Vishnu/Lord Krishna.
18. People who observe fast should stay away from all the bad activities such as gambling, speaking ill about others etc.
