Restrooms Demanded For Women Civic Workers By Forum | Mangaluru News

Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada District Pourakarmika and Group IV Employees Association, urged the Mangaluru City Corporation (MCC) to construct restrooms along with toilet facilities, for women civic workers, in all the wards of the city.
Association president Anil Kumar told reporters here on Saturday, that a district conference of the organisation will be held at the Kudmul Ranga Rao Town Hall in Mangaluru on September 21. State Civic Workers’ Association president Narayana Mysuru, will take part in the convention.
“The MCC should construct restrooms with all facilities, for women civic workers, in all the wards. Similarly, all other urban local bodies, town panchayats and gram panchayats, should also construct restrooms and toilets, for the civic workers, in their jurisdiction,” he said.
Association district secretary S P Anand, said that the system of recruiting civic workers, drivers and loaders in the MCC, and other urban local bodies on contract, should be suspended immediately. “While filling the vacant posts of civic workers, vehicle drivers and loaders in the MCC or other urban local bodies (ULBs), the district administration should hire them under direct recruitment and direct payment scheme, and regularise their services. During a meeting recently, the MCC commissioner promised to regularise civic workers’ services in a phased manner. Already, 111 civic workers have been recruited by the district administration to the MCC,” Anand said.
He also insisted that all the civic workers working in the MCC, other ULBs and gram panchayats in the district, should be provided houses under the ‘Gruha Bhagya’ scheme of the government. “Children of civic workers should be offered financial assistance for their higher education. Benefits of the Arogya Sanjeevini Scheme should be extended to all civic workers, vehicle drivers and those working in the underground drainage system,” he added.
