Smriti Irani claims Congress tried to ‘stall’ Atal Tunnel project | Shimla News

SHIMLA: Union minister Smriti Irani addressed a BJP Mahila Morcha rally at Duttnagar in Rampur assembly constituency on Saturday, where she claimed that there is no scope for the Congress to come back to power.
Earlier in the day, Congress workers were seen waving black flags to protest against rising LGP prices, but they were dispersed by the cops. While addressing the rally, Irani launched a scathing attack on the Congress by claiming that it is the Opposition party’s culture to never fulfil promises. “The Congress ensured that Atal tunnel is not completed, but I am thankful to the BJP government that this historic tunnel has been completed and today the project is world famous,” she claimed.
“The double engine government of BJP has taken the development story of Himachal Pradesh to new horizons. Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre and chief minister Jai Ram Thakur-led government in Himachal Pradesh together have done a great job in accelerating the overall progress of the state. After 30 years, Rampur has got Sanskrit college and this long-standing demand was fulfilled by the BJP government. The Congress only dreamed about it for last 30 years,” Irani said.
The Union minister also attacked the Congress over senior leaders deserting the party. She said, “Congress leaders are leaving the party and recently Ramlal Thakur, a resident of Bilaspur, has submitted his resignation from the post of state vice president. Ram Lal Thakur has also admitted that the Congress is directionless and leaderless, and there are many chief ministerial candidates in this party in Himachal,” she said.
“The Congress never thought about the health of the common people. Ever since the BJP government came to power at the Centre, more than 10 crore families are now covered under Ayushman Bharat Scheme. Moreover, because of the Jai Ram Thakur-led government, those who were not under the purview of scheme have now come under the ambit of Himcare. That’s how a double engine government works. We have given AIIMS in Bilaspur, PGI Centre in Una, Medical Device Park in Nalagarh and Bulk Drug Park in Una. Congress should see what the double engine government has given to Himachal,” she said.
