Two arrested for firing at history-sheeter in Thane | Thane News


THANE: Two persons were arrested by the Thane crime branch in connection with a firing on a history-sheeter as well as a labour contractor who escaped unhurt. The incident has triggered fear among the citizens in the chief ministers’ hometown.
The firing occurred at around 3.45am, on Ghodbunder road-Majiwada’s T-junction.
The five assailants on bikes fired a round on Ganesh Kokate, 33. The main accused has been identified as Ganesh Indulkar.
The arrested accused are identified as Nikhil Yadav alias Kaan and Avinash Mourya alias Ambat 23.
A senior police officer said that Kokate was driving an SUV, when his vehicle came near a junction towards Pokhran road no. 2, the five persons riding on motorbikes tailed him and one of them opened fire on his car.
“He was not injured in the firing, resorted from point blank range and was fired by indulkar,” the officer said.
The police said that after the firing, all the five alleged accused fled the scene, but later the crime branch unit-5 managed to net two of them.
The police said that a case has been registered with the local police station under various sections of IPC and Arms Act.
The motive behind the shoot-out is still not known but an old enmity or the anger of Kokate getting a labour contract may have been the motive. “The exact motive will be ascertained once the prime accused is arrested and a manhunt has been launched to nab the other accused, said a police officer.
