Gonda custodial death case: Eight cops suspended | Lucknow News


LUCKNOW: Three days after a contractual power department employee died in police custody in Gonda, eight cops were suspended on Sunday.
Those suspended on Sunday included surveillance cell in charge and sub-inspector Alok Kumar, head constables Mithlesh Singh and Rakesh Singh and constables Arun Yadav, Aditya Pal, Dharmendra Kumar, Manoj Kumar and Amit Pathak. Gonda police also lodged an FIR on the charges of murder against Nawabganj police station in charge Tej Pratap Singh and constables Manoj, Dharmendra and Mithlesh Singh.
Superintendent of police, Gonda, Akash Tomar said that he has also recommended a judicial inquiry into the case. “The case is still being investigated and strict action will be initiated against those found guilty,” he said.
A lineman on contractual basis in the electricity department, Dev Narayan Yadav, was summoned by Nawabganj police on September 15 after his name cropped up in the murder of a quack, Rajesh Srivastava, who was strangled on September 8.
The postmortem examination report of Yadav revealed myocardial infarction (heart attack) as the cause of death and no injuries were found on the body. However, the viscera were preserved.
The kin of victim along with power department contractual workers had created ruckus, vandalized police vehicles and blocked the Gonda-Ayodhya highway after placing the body and demanded Rs 50 lakh compensation.
