Honda confirms plans to launch new SUV in India next year: Creta, Seltos rival in the works

Honda Cars India is one of the few manufacturers that are yet to enter the ever-growing mid-size SUV segment – a space that has been booming for the past few years. It has now been confirmed that Honda is all set to launch its own mid-size SUV in India as soon as next year.
The new Honda SUV will directly put up against the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun among other similarly priced SUVs. Do note that Honda is yet to reveal any details about its upcoming mid-size SUV. Moreover, the company currently has no SUV in its line-up, with the Amaze, City and City e:HEV (hybrid) driving in majority of the sales.
Back in 2020, Honda shut down its Greater Noida facility, which resulted in the discontinuation of premium offerings like Civic and CR-V – both of which were assembled there from completely knocked down (CKD) kits. Now, the company uses its Tapukara, Rajasthan facility to manufacture the Amaze, City, Jazz and WR-V.
Honda also plans to discontinue its slow-selling products like Jazz, WR-V and fourth-gen City by the end of this financial year, as a part of its business restructuring. The company revealed it is looking at various segments with electrification strategy in mind. With the City e:HEV, Honda had become the first manufacturer in India to launch a mass-market strong-hybrid car earlier this year.
