Ramarajan plays a villager in his comeback movie Saamaniyan | Tamil Movie News

A decade after his last release as an actor, Ramarajan has begun shooting for his next. The film, titled Saamaniyan, will have him playing the lead. Rahesh, who’s helming the film, says, “The story is about a villager, who is in his late 50s-early 60s, and fights for a cause. I was looking for someone in that age bracket, who would strike a chord with the audience, especially the women audience, and I thought Ramarajan sir fit the bill.”

Last year, a source close to Ramarajan had revealed that he would be acting in two films, and directing two movies as well. Ask Rahesh, who has earlier helmed Marainthirunthu Paarkum Marmam Enna, when things fell in place for him, and he reveals, “I actually approached Ramarajan sir a little over a month ago. He had told me that in the last 13 years, he had said no to 40-50 films because he wasn’t convinced with the stories. But he liked my story and even suggested a few changes. I carried out whatever suggestions were valid and retained the rest. Now, we have started shooting the film.”

The movie will be shot in Chennai, Bangalore and Tanjore. “Ramarajan sir will be playing his age, and he has no pair in the film. He has been walking and taking care of his diet to look the part,” he signs off.
