Director Pan Nalin’s Gujarati drama, Chhello Show, has been chosen as India’s official entry to the Oscars. The decision was arrived at by a 17-member jury that consisted of industry veterans and acclaimed filmmakers. ETimes spoke to TP Agarwal is the president of the Film Federation of India and he was privy to the discussion between the members who voted for the movie.

Speaking to ETimes, he revealed key details about the meeting that was considering popular hits like RRR, The Kashmir Files and Shyam Singha Roy. Agarwal said, “This was the only film that was unanimously liked by all 17 jury members and there was no other film. There was no competition to this film, be it The Kashmir Files RRR or any other film.”

Confident that Pan Nalin’s drama is the best film to send to the Academy Awards next year, Agarwal added, “This is the best film that can represent India at the Oscars.” Agarwal also explained that all 17 jury members voted for Chhello Show also titled as Last Film Show, a distinction even RRR and The Kashmir Files couldn’t manage.

Last Film Show is India’s official entry to the Best International Feature Film category of the 95th Academy Awards. The movie had its world premiere as the opening film at Robert DeNiro’s Tribeca Film Festival and has won multiple awards across various international film festivals, including the Golden Spike at the 66th Valladolid Film Festival in Spain, where it also enjoyed commercial success during its theatrical run.
