After 3-day pause, rain to drench Lucknow till weekend | Lucknow News

LUCKNOW: After three days of pause, rainfall activity revived in the state, including Lucknow, from Tuesday. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in many parts of the eastern and central UP and at some places in the west till the weekend.
State met director JP Gupta said weather conditions have become favourable for widespread rain in the state. “There is a low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal and an associated cyclone over north Odisha. This is feeding moisture into the state’s atmosphere. Besides, the monsoon trough – an elongated low- pressure area – is running from Bay of Bengal to southwest UP. This will help in precipitation,” he said.
“Under the influence of these factors, moderate rainfall is expected in most parts of Bundelkhand and southeast UP districts bordering Bihar, Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh. Light to moderate showers would occur in central UP including Lucknow. In southwest UP, districts bordering Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan are expected to receive some rain, although intensity would be low,” he added.According to met department, heavy rainfall last week had improved Lucknow’s rain deficit. The city has received 519.6 mm rainfall from June 1 till date, which is 19% below normal of 644.4 mm set for the period. However, the rainfall situation of the state is not good. Overall, per district average rainfall this monsoon in UP has been 37% below normal.
