AIFF president meets Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik; appreciates state’s sports ecosystem | Football News


BHUBANESWAR: President of All India Football Federation (AIFF) Kalyan Chaubey and secretary general Shaji Prabhakaran on Wednesday met chief minister Naveen Patnaik at Naveen Niwas.
During the meeting, the chief minister urged the AIFF’s cooperation for improvement of women football in the state and restarting of Kalinga Cup football.
“Pleasure meeting Shri Kalyan Chaubey, President of @IndianFootball & General Secy Shri @Shaji4Football. Sought support for growth of women’s football in #Odisha & restarting of Kalinga Cup Football. Thanked them for the appreciation for #Odisha’s illustrious sporting ecosystem,” tweeted the chief minister.

Later, the AIFF officials visited the Kalinga Stadium to discuss the preparedness for the forthcoming FIFA U-17 women’s world cup and the overall development of football in Odisha. Sports secretary R Vineel Krishna briefed them about the details of state’s preparedness.
The Kalinga Stadium in the city is one among the three venues for the soccer tourney to be held from October 11 to October 30 which will host India’s group stage matches against United States, Morocco and Brazil on October 11th, 14th and 17th respectively. The Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Goa and DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai are the two other venues.
The state government has spent Rs 70 crore to develop the football pitch at the Kalinga Stadium and five practice pitches in the city including one artificial grass for practice of the teams during the tournaments.
The AIFF president and secretary general also visited the football ground and other projects and facilities within Kalinga Stadium Complex and lauded the state government’s efforts in promoting various sports.
