‘Land grab’ in south Delhi: MLA hits back, writes to LG | Delhi News

New Delhi: A day after the Delhi Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged that a piece of land in Hauz Khas worth crores of rupees has been encroached upon for extending a graveyard at the behest of the local MLA Somnath Bharti, the MLA wrote a letter to lieutenant governor VK Saxena seeking action against an encroachment in the area and provide the space for a shamshan ghat (cremation ground).
Bharti also said that there was no graveyard in the area and that the BJP was diverting the issue to protect one of its former municipal councillors who had grabbed a piece of land to build a hotel in the area. “Since I am pursuing this case and want the encroached land reclaimed, the BJP is targeting me,” the MLA has claimed.
In the letter to the LG, he said that he has been demanding action on a demolition order passed by Delhi Development Authority (DDA) on the piece of land. He has been demanding for a long time that the land be converted into a shamshan ghat to meet the requirement of Hauz Khas village residents. He has requested the LG to direct DDA to demolish the alleged illegal structure and build a shamshan ghat on the plot.
Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta, who had earlier alleged that two men, who have encroached upon the Deer Park land for graveyard, are close to the AAP MLA and enjoy his protection and urged the LG to order a thorough probe, led a protest against Bharti on Wednesday.
