Nashik civic body gives one month’s extension to garbage collection contractors | Nashik News

NASHIK: The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) has given another one month’s extension to the existing garbage collection contractors till Sept 30 as the process to appoint new contractors may take some more time.
NMC administration had finalized four contractors for six divisions at a cost of Rs 350 crore for next five years. But work orders are yet to be issued to these new contractors.
Nashik municipal commissioner Chandrakant Pulkundwar has already directed the civic officials concerned to conduct an audit of garbage collection contracts worth Rs 354 crore.
All the documents related to the tender process and the tender cost are to be verified before giving work orders to the new contractors concerned.
The previous garbage collection contract ended in December 2021, but an extension was given to the existing contractors until the new contractors were appointed.
At the end of the contract in December last year, the NMC implemented the tender process for the deployment of new contractors for garbage collection for the next five years. But the cost of the garbage collection contract increased from Rs 176 crore to Rs 354 crore.
During the NMC standing committee meeting, the issue of the higher cost of contracts was raised. The panel members had also alleged corruption, but the then standing committee chairman Ganesh Gite had given approval to the proposal in this connection.
Hence, the decision on the fresh contracts is to be taken after the audit.
