Uttarakhand: ‘Put names, pics of teachers on display to catch proxies’ | Dehradun News

DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand‘s state director general of education, Bansidhar Tiwari, has instructed schools across the state to display a list of teachers along with their photos so that teachers don’t send proxies to work instead of them. The decision came after the acting principal of Bagwadi primary school in Thalisain, Pauri, Sheetal Rawat, was found to have hired a woman to go to work on her behalf. The case came to light during a routine inspection by chief education officer Anand Bhardwaj on Tuesday. Rawat was suspended on Wednesday and an inquiry has been ordered against her. She has been attached with the block education office for now and an explanation sought from her. Meanwhile, her salary has been stopped till authorities certify that she isn’t moonlighting.
“The principal, who gets paid Rs 65,000 per month, has been paying a woman around Rs 2,500 every month to take classes on her behalf for the past one year,” the education officer said.
“The school is in a remote place and parents never realised that a proxy was teaching the kids. This is a very serious issue. Teachers cannot shun their duty like this. We will take serious action against anyone found missing from deployment,” said Bhardwaj.
In May this year, the headmistress of another school in Pauri Garhwal was found to have been paying a woman Rs 10,000 per month to go to school in her place.
